Scanning

If you'd prefer to keep your original photographs during the process, we allow you to do your own scanning. If you have a scanner this can be done at home, or you can take them to a professional at Kinko's, Staples or any other print store. When you have the files on your computer, you can either send us a CD or upload them to our web site.

Scanning tips

  • Clean the scanner glass before beginning – preferably using a glass cleaner and a dry cloth. Periodically check for dust and fingerprints while scanning.
  • Scan your photos at 600dpi.
  • Save them as either high quality JPG's or TIFF files.
  • Be consistent when you place your pictures into the scanner to make sure that all the pictures are oriented in the same way. (When some pictures are upside down or turned on their side, it slows down the process).
  • If your scanner gives you the option the automatic settings should be turned OFF, e.g. auto-sharpening, auto-exposure, etc.
Note: When you place an order this information will be included in an email

Shipping

You can safely ship us your original photos. We use UPS so that you can insure your package for an amount of your choosing up to $50,000 (if you require a larger amount, please split your order into separate segments). When we receive the photos they are scanned as soon as possible and stored in a fire-proof safe. On the next page you will choose an insurance amount separate from the UPS shipping, which will cover your originals from the time we receive them until they are safely back in your hands.
